Still deciding whether or not this song is retarded or genius….on the fence waiting to be pushed over…

Pre-Orders On ITunes? WTF?

You can currently pre-order the new Chili Peppers album on ITunes.

Why would anyone do this?

Great band with a new record - check it!

I’m always trying out different ways to discover new music….here’s how I’m currently using Spotify (and Rdio before it)

Thank God they didn’t have this when I was younger - I wouldn’t have accomplished anything!

Spotify or Rdio?

So I’ve kept my Rdio subscription alive for a month while I played around with Spotify and now I’ve arrived at the point where I need to cancel one or the other.

My decision to keep using Spotify wasn’t really difficult mostly because both use the social aspects of their services as a major selling point and right now I don’t know a single person that uses Rdio but I already have 6 friends using Spotify in the short time it’s been available.

Interestingly enough, I think I like using Rdio more, and there have been quite a few albums that were available on Rdio that are inexplicably not on Spotify (I still haven’t found a reason that Adele’s 21 isn’t available).

People like to talk about Spotify being the ITunes replacement they’ve always wished for, but I don’t see it.  I imported my ITunes Library into Spotify and I must be missing something, because I feel like it makes the experience a mess.  The one thing I assumed was that importing my library would act as a bookmark for my music when I installed the Spotify client on other devices such as my work machine.  Nope.  Doesn’t work that way.

In the end though, I’m probably not the target user for these services.  I like to own my music (over 42k currently in ITunes) and still buy plenty of albums (albeit digitally these days).  The greatest benefit I’ve found in using Spotify or Rdio has been the ability to listen to new releases for awhile before deciding whether or not to buy them.  When deciding that I want the album, I can then wait until Amazon drops the price to $5 or something similar.

It’s unfortunate that Rdio doesn’t offer the free service the way that Spotify does.  I may have been able to suck some of my friends in if they did, and now I’d be able to keep my account active now that I’ve decided to use Spotify as my primary music service.

If you’re using Spotify, hit me up if you want to share some good music.
